Eargams (Audio Samples)

An important part of loop-trapping is sampling something recognizable and mixing in a different way. Poetry so to speak. DJ Strange gave me his box of vinhyls and told me to pick out 3 records that I fancied. I mixed some parts of this one right off of the turntable, and he bounced it around to a few Independent radio stations. I was surprised to hear it one morning shortly after midnight on some odd station that my transmitter for my ipod was about to cover up. Needless to say I didnt listen to my ipod for the duration of my peice.

This was my first experiment using both the MPC and Fruit Loops. A local DJ caught wind of my concept of “trapping” loops and asked me to perform a live demo of creating simple loops and mixing them to the point that the origional tune is unrecognizable. The concept, although not all that new or origional itself has been around for a while. But a  simple, and quick demo is what he got.  This tune however is still pretty recognizable.

This one im actually proud of, this summer I picked up my Mentors old MPC and played with it for a few hours. I found a dusty album, digitized it and worked my magic. My high school was located right beside 9th Wonder’s office at NCCU. And a little known artist who went by the Alias of Definition used this beat for one of the songs on his demo. He said he needed a “quality looptrapper to provide him with some jazzy flavour.” Where this song is i do not know. I hope you get more use out of it than he did.

One I’ve had for a while. It was the first time I used a serious Sampler. Made when a few buddies and myself had dreams of being rappers. Those turned to dreams of being Filmakers…for me at least.

Instrumental made for my 8-track EP Apology Letters. I was just playing simple guitar riffs on my freinds and tried to replicate it on Fruit Loops.

Kind of like how basketball players find their calling at an early age when they either choose to keep going and become great. Or give it up for academics. Thats kind of where I got stuck with this one. As a fan of J. Dilla, Madlib, and MF DOOM I had every intention to add some weird tribal sounds and spaced out noises to this peice to add some complexity, but I made this the same week I moved into college and never got back to it.
